Anavik and Nanook

by Bernice M. Phillips of Greybull, Wyoming

Nanook (Eskimo for polar bear) is Anavik's good friend and buddy; he wears his matching vest and tie. They have good times together during the longs days and nights in Alaska.

Anavik is a young Eskimo girl dressed in a Kusbuk, the Eskimo summer parka. Calico and rick rack are the most commonly used materials. Modern Eskimos wear a T-shirt and jeans beneath their traditional clothing.

She has mukluks on her feet trimmed with fur.
