Story of the Beige Behemoth

In March 2005, a group of dedicated quilters from around Wyoming's Big Horn Basin began a year-long project we called the "Beige Behemoth," a sampler quilt of twelve 20-inch blocks, designed by Julie Owens (store owner).

Each quilter paid $10 to join. The first month they each received the first block pattern and picked six fats from a fat quarter selection that literally covered our front cutting table with all kinds of shades, prints and tints of white through dark brown, ecru, beige, tan, anything that would fit the behemoth scheme.

They brought their completed block into the shop the first Saturday of each month after that and picked up the next block pattern and two more fat quarters of their choice. They were encouraged to be creative, change blocks, add extra colors -- anything to make the quilt truly 'theirs.'

On March 4, 2006, those who had their tops completely assembled came in and got to choose for their borders two free yards of fabric of their choice from Big Horn Quilts' entire inventory. They each went home with a 90''x70" quilt top for a total investment of just $10. Not bad! Below are pictures of the completed tops that came in that day, and for a few days thereafter.
