Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On

By Joyce Huff Finch of Kingwood, Texas

Artist's Statement:
I love to make strip quilts and by using the diagonal seams it creates a sense of movement in the design. As I worked on this project and studied the challenge fabric I became convinced that I could actually incorporate some of the Elvis silhouettes into the strips. The majority of my machine quilting attempts have been simple in-the-ditch projects, however the erratic zigzag pattern of the Richter scale during an earthquake seemed to be more appropriate for the gyrating movements of Elvis!

She framed Elvis in the strips.

Her Richter scale quilting.

And a nice selection of black and white fabrics which compliment the ugly fabric!
