Blue Suede Shoes

By Loretta Hodge of Greensboro Florida

Artist's Statement:
I was a lucky girl who got to meet Elvis when he was just beginning his career in the '50s. My aunt belonged to a garden club that happened to be meeting at a nightclub owned by one of the members in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Jim Ed Brown, singer (The Browns) was the son of the owner and had Elvis there with him after a performance at the Louisiana Hayride. Aunt Turt took me to the meeting; I was very shy, but got a handshake from Elvis. He was young, very polite and very much a gentleman. I'm a "senior citizen" now, but the old Elvis songs still take me back to the parish hall where we had dances on Friday night, and a lot of 'first kisses' took place.

There are a lot of details on this quilt, and fabrics from much nicer Elvis collections.

Elvis and the blue suede shoes.

From the army days.

A period drive-in. Boy, doesn't that bring back memories!
Real money and lots of glitzy sequins.
