Lanny has used other fabrics besides cotton - there's quite a bit of silk in it. Beads give it subtle sparkle. | ![]() |

The borders have little 'rays' shot through them to the edge. The bindings are colorful reflections of the log strips. She has hand quilted it with varigated metallic thread! | ![]() |
Artists StatementI chose the MARDI GRAS carnival as a theme for this colorful design. Your Rose Challenge pack was indeed a challenge for me, as I am more acquainted with subtle colors. In answer to your request, I added more than 20 kinds of fabric (including the color list on the selvage of the rose printed fabric which was too cute to throw away). To give more balance, I added a considerable amount of black, plus gleaming beads to add sparkle. This quilt consisting of 63 Log Cabin blocks (over 2,500 pieces) may be considered as a sampler, as none of the blocks are exactly alike. As a whole, this quilt has taught me something about life. Some days are bright, and some days are dark. As a human being, I'd rather have "a bed of roses" to live in, but if I do, my life would be unbalanced. That's why dark days are needed as well. For this quilt I'd like to quote part of the lyric sung by John Denver: "Some days are Diamonds Some days are stone Some times the hard times Won't leave me alone..." |
