Threadeater IV: Rambling Roses

By Judy Knox of Marion Oh

Both the shape and the colors make this a real eyecatcher.

I think this is why she calls it 'threadeater'.

Interesting treatments on all the seams.

Artists Statement

The technique used in this quilt is something I learned about by reading an article in the Oct/Nov 1996 issue of "Threads" magazine. I bought the magazine because I saw there was an article called "The Quilt Reinvented" by Sherri Wood and the title intrigued me. As a quiltmaker who has had carpal tunnel syndrome surgery and now deals with acute tendonitis in my right thumb I have reached a point in my quilting life where I cannot do handwork and I cannot use straight pins to hold quilt parts together. This technique is perfectly suited to my challenge of making a wallhanging without pinning and it also suits my need to "play" with colors and threads and my reliable old Singer 201-2, a machine that was built in 1948. The idea behind this technique is that you make some 'potholders" and you free motion them together. It is great fun to just "scribble" and relax at the sewing machine with no angst over 1/4 " seams and /or matching points. The instructions for your challenge said "Lets have a colorful challenge!" and this qualifies a colorful. If you had said "Lets have a colorful challenge with meticulously pieced precisely and perfectly stitched entries" I would not have entered.
