Mary Ann's Rings and Roses

by Jan Barnett of Shell, WY

Mary Ann is a quilter with curly hair.
She stands beside the double wedding ring quilt she just finished.
She is on her way to a quilting bee.

She's in demand because of her fine quilting.
She's going the long way around because she doesn't want to get her new boots muddy.

Artists Statement

I made this doll using an 1840s Mary Ann doll pattern. After making her body from muslin, I painted the shoes and face. I dipped body parts in varnish. After they were dry, I sanded them and redipped them 2 more times. The miniature wedding ring quilt was a pattern I had made once before and thought it would go well with her. I croched the sewing basket from one of the challenge fabrics to complete her. This was a fun project for me as I've been wanting to make one of these dolls for a long time.
